Several Sundays ago while on our trip in Lyon, we took a little day trip to the medieval town of Perouge. It's a lovely walled city that was established as an independent commune in the 13th century. The city was largely abandoned during the 1800s due to its lack of proximity to roads and railways; however, Perouge began to see restoration starting in 1911. We set out in the morning with our friends, the Reindls (it's wonderful to have friends with a car!). Throughout the day we enjoyed the beautiful (though sometimes difficult to stride upon) cobble stone roads, the quaint homes, rustic sights, and a little specialty dessert of the city. We also shared a lovely picnic composed of items from a farmers' market in Lyon (except for the bacon flavored chips Kyle and I had packed for the car ride from Metz...) Lauren and Kyle selected a slice of Galette de Perouge (sort of like a sugar pie) for us all to sample. They were quite sweet and tasty!
